Lance Studio ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Spool mobile application (the "App"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our App.

            Privacy First: We believe in transparency. Spool uses privacy-first analytics and never sells your data or shows advertisements. Your filament inventory stays private.
        

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you use Spool, you create and manage:

Filament Inventory Data: Brand names, material types, colours, weights, purchase prices, and storage locations
Print History: Project names, print durations, material usage, success/failure status, and optional photographs
3D Printer Information: Printer models, brands, and maintenance records
User Preferences: Currency settings, units of measurement, theme choices, and app customisation options
Shopping List: Items you wish to purchase, including estimated prices and priorities

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

We automatically collect limited technical information to improve the App:

Device Identifier: A randomly generated UUID stored on your device to distinguish unique users in analytics (cannot be used to identify you personally)
Usage Analytics: App feature usage patterns, screen views, button clicks, and session duration
Crash Reports: Error logs to identify and fix bugs
App Version: Your installed version and build number

1.3 Optional Third-Party Integrations

If you choose to enable these features:

BambuLab Cloud: If you connect your BambuLab account, we request access to your print history to automatically import completed prints. Your BambuLab credentials are stored securely in your device's Keychain (we never see your password).
Amazon Associates / AWIN: When you click affiliate links to purchase filament, you'll be redirected to vendor websites. We receive anonymous commission data if you complete a purchase, but we never see your purchase details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

Provide Core Functionality: Store and sync your filament inventory, print logs, and preferences across your devices
Improve the App: Analyse usage patterns to identify popular features, detect bugs, and optimise performance
Customer Support: Diagnose technical issues when you contact us for help
Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities

3. Data Storage and Synchronisation

3.1 Local Storage

All your filament data, print logs, and preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.

3.2 iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud Sync in the app settings:

Your data is encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account (container ID: iCloud.com.Spool.FilamentTrackerSync)
Only you can access this data across your devices signed in with the same Apple ID
We cannot access your iCloud data - it's protected by Apple's end-to-end encryption
You can disable iCloud Sync at any time in Settings → Data Management

3.3 App Group Storage

We use an App Group (group.com.Spool.FilamentTracker) to share data between the main app and potential future app extensions (e.g., widgets). This data stays on your device.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 TelemetryDeck (Analytics)

Service Provider: TelemetryDeck GmbH (Germany)

What We Share:

Device identifier (randomised UUID)
App version and build number
Feature usage events (e.g., "spool_added", "analytics_viewed")
Basic device info (iOS version, device model)

Why We Use It: TelemetryDeck is a privacy-first analytics platform. Unlike Google Analytics, it:

Does not use cookies or tracking pixels
Does not track users across apps
Stores data in EU servers (GDPR compliant)
Cannot identify individual users

4.2 Apple iCloud

If you enable sync, your data is stored in Apple's iCloud servers.

4.3 BambuLab Cloud (Optional)

If you connect your BambuLab account, we access their API to import your print history. We do not store your BambuLab password.

4.4 Affiliate Networks

When you click "Buy" or "Reorder" links:

Amazon Associates: We earn a small commission if you purchase through our affiliate links. Amazon may use cookies to track purchases.
AWIN: We use AWIN to monetise links to vendors like BambuLab. AWIN tracks clicks and conversions but does not share your personal data with us.

5. Data We Do NOT Collect

To be crystal clear, Spool does NOT collect:

❌ Your name, email address, or phone number (unless you voluntarily contact support)
❌ Your location data (GPS coordinates)
❌ Your contacts or calendar
❌ Your photos (except those you manually select for print logs)
❌ Biometric data (Face ID / Touch ID is handled locally by iOS)
❌ Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
❌ Browsing history outside the app

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We never sell or rent your personal data. We only share data in these limited circumstances:

6.1 With Your Consent

When you enable iCloud Sync or connect to BambuLab Cloud.

6.2 For Analytics

Anonymous usage data is shared with TelemetryDeck (as described in Section 4.1).

6.3 Legal Obligations

We may disclose your information if required by law or to:

Comply with legal processes (subpoenas, court orders)
Protect our rights and property
Prevent fraud or illegal activity
Protect user safety

6.4 Business Transfers

If Lance Studio is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred to the new owner (you will be notified beforehand).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

Encryption in Transit: All network requests use HTTPS/TLS encryption
Encryption at Rest: iCloud data is encrypted using Apple's security protocols
Secure Credential Storage: BambuLab tokens are stored in iOS Keychain (hardware-backed encryption)
No Plain-Text Passwords: We never store or transmit passwords in plain text

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

Local Data: Stored on your device until you delete the app or manually delete items
iCloud Data: Stored in your iCloud account until you disable sync or delete your Apple account
Analytics Data: TelemetryDeck retains anonymised usage data for 2 years
Crash Logs: Deleted after 90 days

9. Your Rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA)

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

9.1 Access and Portability

You can export your entire database (spools, prints, settings) as a JSON file via Settings → Data Management → Export Data.

9.2 Rectification

You can edit or correct any data directly in the app (tap any spool or print to edit).

9.3 Deletion ("Right to Be Forgotten")

To delete all your data:

Disable iCloud Sync in Settings → Data Management
Delete the Spool app from your device
Contact us at [email protected] to request deletion of any analytics data

9.4 Opt-Out of Analytics

You can disable analytics tracking by turning on "Limit Ad Tracking" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (this prevents our anonymous device ID from being generated).

9.5 Withdraw Consent

You can revoke permissions at any time:

Disable iCloud Sync: Settings → Data Management
Disconnect BambuLab: Settings → BambuLab Cloud → Disconnect

10. Children's Privacy

Spool is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

11. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in:

United States: Apple iCloud servers (if you're in a region served by US data centres)
European Union: TelemetryDeck servers (Germany)

These transfers are protected by:

Apple's compliance with EU-US Data Privacy Framework
TelemetryDeck's GDPR compliance (EU-based company)

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Significant changes will be announced via:

In-app notification
The "What's New" section in Settings

Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
